Hmm... might be more the software that came with the camera than the camera itself - maybe try it with some downloaded webcam software?
Saves you the expense of another camera if that works :)
If not, my Logitech webcam and the software that came with it records fo as long as I let it.

I just bought a Creative Live Cam Optia AF.
I like it pretty well.
I'm not sure how long I can record on it though.

I think skype cameras are quite good, depending if you can get them in america (Which you should hopefully)
